New Future Medicine PhD fellowship now available

We are now recruiting for a new student to start in January 2027. Closing date Monday 16 November 2026.

Hands holding a heart

Thanks to a generous gift from a private donor, the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine has offered five fully-funded PhD studentships to UK students to explore the role of infectious agents in chronic diseases.

All the projects are fundamentally collaborative, and bring together two researchers with different approaches, to answer questions in a transdisciplinary way.

Four students were recruited to start in October 2026 and a final project is now open for applicants.

New project available

Project: Unravelling the link between infection and non-communicable diseases to enable a paradigm shift in the prevention and treatment of chronic disease

This project aims to investigate whether exposure to specific infections across the life course contributes to the development of major chronic diseases, and whether vaccination or immune responses modify these risks.
