Africa Week was a week long celebration of the wealth of activities focusing on Africa at the University of Edinburgh, running from 3 – 8 October 2016. Image Long-standing links with Africa in Biological Sciences Infectious disease researchers in the School of Biological Sciences have many long-standing links across Africa, inlcuding David Cavanagh (malaria), Amy Buck (helmith infections), David Arnot (malaria), Andrew Leigh-Brown (HIV and other viruses), Alex Rowe (malaria), Mark Woolhouse (epidemiology of infectious diseases) and Francisca Mutapi (Schistosomiasis). Download a copy of School of Biological Sciences links with Africa (pdf) Africa Research and Outreach seminar One particular highlight of Africa Week was the Africa Research and Outreach seminar on Monday 3 October, which focussed on the activities in Africa by University academics. The University has an important and long historical connection with Africa from early pioneering graduates to current teaching and research. Throughout the week (3 - 8 October 2016) there was an exciting series of events which will provide a forum for students, staff and the public to share ideas and best practice. It was also an opportunity to find out more and discuss aspects of African research, knowledge exchange and cultural activities taking place at the University of Edinburgh.
