One Health Models of Infectious Disease Symposium

Symposium and panel discussion

Edinburgh Infectious Diseases is developing an application to the Wellcome Trust for a doctoral training programme (DTP) on ‘One Health Models of Infectious Diseases’.

To showcase existing research in Edinburgh, and to facilitate discussion about design of the new DTP,  Edinburgh Infectious Diseases is hosting a half-day symposium on the afternoon of Tuesday 23 October.

The afternoon will conclude with a panel discussion led by Ross Fitzgerald (Director of Edinburgh Infectious Diseases) and Kenny Baillie.

Doctoral Training Programme in One Health Models of Infectious Disease

The overall aim of the DTP is to provide state-of-the-art training in models of infection and relevant technique, applied to world-leading science informing both animal and human health.

The DTP will be built on our leading medical and vet schools, and the world class animal sciences Roslin Institute, with expertise in genomics of livestock and pathogens.

Edinburgh also has cutting-edge expertise in genome editing of large animals, including sheep and goats, and in genome-wide editing of human, bovine, porcine and chicken primary and secondary cell lines for understanding host-pathogen interactions.

In addition we aim to utilise the facilities available at the Wellcome Trust-funded Large Animal Research and Imaging Facility (LARIF).

All welcome!

We very much hope that you will be able to attend and look forward to hearing your ideas for developing an effective DTP.
