Edinburgh Infectious Diseases Winter Lecture 2023 We are delighted to invite you to join with us for this year's Edinburgh Infectious Diseases Winter Lecture. This year the lecture will be given Prof Sarah Cleaveland OBE FRS FRSE from the University of Glasgow on One Health: Beyond Zoonoses. About Sarah The event will take place in the Anatomy Lecture Theatre in the Old Medical School on Monday 13 November 2023, and will be followed by a drinks reception to which all are most welcome. Register for lecture About Sarah's talk One Health, which recognises the interdependencies of human, animal and environmental health, is well established as an approach for combating emerging and endemic zoonotic diseases. However, there is increasing recognition of the value of One Health in addressing a broader set of intersecting issues around human and animal diseases, biodiversity loss, agricultural systems, and climate change. In this presentation, I will share insights from a long-term One Health research programme in Tanzania, discussing One Health in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals and emerging disease threats. The presentation will draw on case studies, including zoonotic and livestock diseases, to illustrate the value and potential of the One Health approach, will discuss some of the existing barriers to action, and will identify key elements of the effectiveness of One Health activities.
