The factors influencing how diseases are spread within communities, and how underlying cultural, social, and economic issues impact disease control and treatment delivery, provide rich opportunities for collaboration between social, clinical and biological scientists in Edinburgh.

Alice's research focuses on the material politics of global health, with a focus on Papua New Guinea and South India.

Ian Harper is Professor of Social Anthroplogy in the School of Social and Political Science, and director of the Edinburgh Centre for Medical Anthropology.

James Smith is Professor of African and Developmental Studies in the Centre of African Sudies and Vice-Principal International for the University of Edinburgh.

Sue Welburn is based in Infection Medicine at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Her lab has a major research focus on the eradication of Trypanosomiasis in Uganda and other areas of sub-Saharan Africa.
