Registration is now closed Document EID symposium 2019 programme, posters and attendees (464.68 KB / PDF) Confirmed speakers Mark Blaxter (School of Biological Sciences) – Evolution of the filarial nematode-Wolbachia symbiont system Lisa Boden (Global Academy of Agriculture and Food Security) – Risk and long-term future resilience to disease outbreaks Eleanor Gaunt (The Roslin Institute) – The role of CpG dinucleotides in regulating virus replication kinetics Ross Houston (The Roslin Institute) – Genetic basis of disease resistance in fish David Longbottom (Moredun Research Institute) – Chlamydia infection in sheep Jenny Regan (School of Biological Sciences) – Sex differences in the innate immune system Edward Wallace (School of Biological Sciences) – Fungal pathogenesis Claire Mackintosh (Regional Infectious Diseases Unit, Western General Hospital) – Antibiotic use in primary care Sarah Walmsley (Centre for Inflammation Research) – Regulation of neutrophil apoptosis by hypoxia Ker Memorial Lecturer - Sharon Peacock We are delighted that Professor Sharon Peacock from University College London will give the Ker Memorial Lecture. About the speaker My research group consists of PhD students and early and mid-career postdoctoral scientists who share a passion for microbiology. The range of work that we undertake is relatively broad, but is underpinned by questions that are of direct relevance to human and animal health. This includes work in the UK and overseas. Studies into antimicrobial resistance are an important (but not sole) focus of our work. As a group leader, I try to create the right environment to encourage and mentor people into independent careers, and from there to roles as future research leaders.
