Molecular evolution, phylogenetics and epidemiology - Andrew Rambaut

Andrew Rambaut is a member of the Institute of Evolutionary Biology in the School of Biological Sciences, interested in the evolution of emerging human viral pathogens including Ebola, Zika and Influenza viruses.

The main interest in the Rambaut lab is the evolution of emerging human viral pathogens, in particular, fast evolving RNA viruses that have been sampled through time.

Projects

Analysis of molecular sequence data from viral disease outbreaks to infer evolutionary and population dynamic processes in near to real-time.

Models of molecular evolution for phylogenetic reconstruction using maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference. Molecular clock techniques including auto-correlated clocks and over-dispersed clocks.

Developing computational methods for phylogenetic and evolutionary analysis, primarily using Bayesian MCMC.
